The Media Gap Motor
The media gap motor (MSM) is a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) whose design is characterized by an exceptionally large gap between the rotor and stator.
Contrary to the prevailing motor theory, very high efficiencies are nevertheless achieved here. Reasons for this …
…are the almost negligible magnetic and very low iron losses. The MSM generates its power through speed. The gap can be flowed through and – depending on the transported medium – can also dissipate heat losses from the inside. The special feature: The space between the stator (current-carrying) and the rotor (in the medium) can easily be hermetically sealed – without the use of dynamic seals. This predestines this e-drive, when used with an appropriate flow machine, for the transport of gases and liquids. The rotor magnet can be integrated directly into the conveying device. By the way: The MSM does not has a break moment than regular e-motors.
Fields of Application
- Blowers: Transport of explosive gases, dusts, vapors, ventilation equipment.
- Pumps: transport of liquids such as water or oils, perishable goods or in medical technology
- dosing pumps, micropumps, disposable pumps or multistage pump systems
- disinfectable or sterilizable pump systems
- Screw conveyors for e.g. granular media, liquids or pastes
- Media flow measurement via generator voltage / power consumption
- Turbines and generators
- Electrification of exhaust gas turbochargers (eaTL)
